Sunday, August 17, 2008 ♥ 10:10 PM let me make this clear first before anything. i still hate those noisy china-eans on the train talking on their phones as if Singapore has the worst reception ever. Might be true, but. If we dont shout on the phones in our country, dont you bloody hell dare. but then again, hear those china stadiums and halls. bloody hell, if more of them come over, we'll really die of noise pollution before they bring the millions of other pollutions from their country over. guess it a nation tradition of some sort in their country. oh well, they call it heritage, dont they. Now, on to topic. Yes, it is true. I did feel that those Singapore-imported athletes, mainly from China in the table tennis arena, are in a flat and crude manner, a disgrace and unworthy even if they did anything distinguishable. Yes, I felt that their attitudes sucked and what’s worse, their faith in their home country, where they felt they belonged. I was pretty much pissed at it. Okay fine, VERY very pissed if it makes you happier. How one has been entrusted with the entire nation’s pride and awards the country back by helping the in-charges maintain the high cleanliness level of the Olympic hall. How the bloodline will always remain as a stigma no matter what. And the list goes on, I can assure you of that. But hey, I wouldn’t write this much if all i wanted was to rant about something i’ve been at since 48 years ago. And no, i’m still 17. But i’ve come to think of it, perhaps putting the nationality aside. Putting what we always thought was more important, what they could never change and have already accepted. Probably they did come Singapore at first for other unknown reasons, but, in our lives, doesn’t that happen one time too many? I mean, do you really get your head into the project or competition just to win, or is it for the monetary, fame or the many miscellaneous benefits that only you know? Even so, i’m sure you’d give your best. It is the same. After taking a step back from firing hot-headedly (and still in an attempt to be a nice guy. Yes i’m trying), probably this avenue of thought might actually hold more truth than the other. In the end, they might really be trying to win the competition to their very best. So, as part of the country they are fighting for, why not cheer them on and save on our ego-inflated comments and criticism that neither can they fight back nor ignore. So, for once, after 48 years (no, i’m still 17), i guess we should actually keep out sharp tongues shaved, since none of us can actually do perform the feat they have accomplished. Secondly, out to Singapore. I declare it impossible to ever have a home grown Singaporean standing on the medal table. Unless we have our own Phelps in our own very way, who’s body is physically blessed by god, it might still be an eternal wait as even the man from Atlantis started training at a incredibly young age. Yes, that’s what i’m driving at. Age. The main factor that creates athletes and structures their bodies and lives. This is an ever standing barrier that will bar any Singaporean from ever being a success. Athletes of medals started their first stroke, their first swoosh and shot at tender ages that you would only need a single hand to count with. The later ones would probably start at 8,9 years old. At such ages, the children pick things up quickly, and learn the essentials more easily than their teenage counterparts. But wait. What was i doing at 8years old, if i were to close one eye and deem that athletes start their work , as a kiddo? Was it not what they called... childhood? Oh, THAT rings a bell. Childhood. Singaporean. Ah, now i remember. I was studying. Books, not shuttlecocks. Pencils, not ping pong bats. The exam hall, not the swimming complex. A mistake meant 1 mark lost, not point. It was primary school. Compulsory is the only word to describe it. So, simply, how? How are we ever be able to excel in a sport while having a textbook in hand? How are we going to sit for tests on vowels and multiplications if we are to focus on the stroke of our bats? It is not going to work. Even with a body made for the sport, studying will not help you swim. That’s the bottom line. Oh well. Feeling gone. Dunno what else to say alr. byebye. |
